1. Installed HP DeskJet 5150 on Athlon computer System using X86 Vista..
2. Printer worked fine with this computer.. But would not print from network computers... (all windows XP)..
3. Installed Deskjet 5150 on another XP machine. And after some fiddling around.. Windows Vista computer is printing to the 5150 on the XP machine...
Question???
Any suggestions on making the Vista machine the printer server machine.

HP printer drivers
How did you get to print on the printer connected to an XP machine from the Vista machine? I can't get it to print. It looks like everything is normal on the screen, but nothing ever prints. I don't get any errors, it just doesn't print. Thanks.

Any suggestions on making the Vista machine the printer server machine.
1. I uninstalled all HP drivers and Printers from both machines...
2. I re-installed a new HP driver on the XP machine from the internet..
3. Once the new driver was instaled on the XP machine. I restarted the Vista machine and it installed a driver for the 5150 from Vista. (Don't know which driver it was. I didn't think there was a 5150 driver loaded with Vista) and tried to print to the XP . It would not print. Something about the spooling .
4. I then restarted the Vista machine and tried to print a test page.. It would not print..
5. Typed a silly sentence in Wordpad and tried to print. And it works..
6. There must be a computer God. :)

I believe my printer is not compatible with Vista. It's an HP 3420 that I purchased almost four years ago. I installed it on my computer with Vista, but when I ask it to print files it does not send them to the spool. When I try to print internet pages, a popup shows up on my computer that says: "A website wants to open this program using your computer..." The program is the spool directory. So I allow it, and nothing happens, and if I don't allow it, nothing ALSO happens. Any solutions to my printer problems? Is it just that this printer is not compatible?

Scott;
The latest drivers for your HP printer are dated 2001. I may be wrong, but it's likely that HP will not be writing drivers for Vista. While it may work very well, it just is old, in terms of printer longevity. I'm curious what HP said in their response to your inquiry.
Your Lexmark may just need a nudge. Try running the driver using XP compatibility mode. This has had mixed results ranging from total success to utter system failure, so you may want to test the scenario in a safe environment.
In the meantime, like the rest of us with something that doesn't work with the beta (I have no sound and no modem, presently), you may have to just wait for the vendors to catch up to Vista, and use your XP production computer instead of your test unit.
